As with several items, the Mechanical Worm has multiple crafting recipes (four in total) due to some items in the recipe allowing substitutes. The small anvil is one of the primary item creation tools for all skills in the Smithing tree.

Like other mechanical boss summoning items, the Mechanical Worm can be brought to pre-Hardmode worlds and will successfully summon The Destroyer there.

Examine it and it'll tell you what it needs. If you succeed, you will create an unfinished forge on the ground. The idea is to have it next to your large anvil and use it without having to pick it up. It is basically identical to the small anvil except that it must be on the ground to be used and can be planted.

Use a stone brick on some clay to create a forge. I created a server mod that introduces a new item called the shop anvil. You can then use the stone chisel to create stone bricks from rock shards. However, it requires nighttime for usage, whereas Worm Food lacks a time requirement. To make a forge, you first need to create an iron stone chisel using your anvil. Unlike Worm Food, a Mechanical Worm can be used outside of The Corruption.(Desktop, Console and Mobile versions) In the get fixed boi secret world seed, the Mechanical Worm is not consumable and is instead a crafting material for the Ocram's Razor, an item used to summon Mechdusa.Ocram's Razor (Desktop, Console and Mobile versions)
